Position Overview

As a Safety Officer, you will ensure the security and safety of individuals and property within designated areas of the La Posada de Santa Fe campus by conducting patrols on foot or in vehicles and enforcing established rules and regulations. This role involves evaluating situations and exercising sound judgment to achieve positive outcomes. You will work under the direct supervision of the Security Supervisor and will be required to maintain a flexible work schedule to accommodate various shifts.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Conduct regular patrols of assigned buildings, grounds, and parking areas to ensure the safety and well-being of residents and staff, while preventing and detecting incidents such as fire, vandalism, and suspicious activities.
  2. Respond to alarms and dispatched calls for both emergency and non-emergency situations, determining appropriate actions based on the circumstances.
  3. Provide basic first aid, CPR, or AED as a first responder in emergencies until professional medical assistance arrives.
  4. Investigate and document hazards, property damage, or unusual incidents, ensuring reports are timely, accurate, and clear.
  5. Maintain accurate logs of activities and actions taken during shifts.
  6. Participate in emergency drills for various scenarios, including fire and disaster preparedness.
  7. Monitor campus activity to enforce traffic regulations and assist with traffic control during events.
  8. Inspect and secure buildings by checking doors and windows, reporting any security concerns.
  9. Authorize the removal of property from campus in accordance with established policies.
  10. Escort individuals or property when safety is a concern.
  11. Contact law enforcement or emergency services when necessary.
  12. Inspect security systems and report any malfunctions.
  13. Assist visitors and staff with directions and information.
  14. Detain trespassers or violators until law enforcement arrives, without using force.
  15. Manage communications via radio and telephone.
  16. Deliver items to residents as requested.
  17. Perform general maintenance tasks as needed.
  18. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Required Skills and Knowledge
  • Understanding of basic security and fire safety protocols.
  • Familiarity with relevant equipment and procedures to ensure effective security operations.
  • Customer service skills, including needs assessment and quality service delivery.
  • Proficiency in English language structure, grammar, and composition.
  • Knowledge of telephone etiquette.
  • Strong observational and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to interact courteously with the public.
  • Proficient in typing and using computer software.
  • Ability to prepare detailed reports.
  • Basic arithmetic and recordkeeping skills.
  • Experience with office equipment.
  • Effective communication skills.
Minimum Requirements

One year of experience in the security field; or,
  • Any equivalent combination of experience, training, and/or education as approved by Human Resources.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license upon employment.
  • Completion of basic first aid, CPR, and AED training within six months of employment.
