Job Summary: We are seeking an experienced Electrician to join our team as a Locomotive Maintenance Technician. As a key member of our mechanical department, you will be responsible for testing, inspecting, and repairing electrical components of locomotive systems, equipment, and machinery.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Test, maintain, and repair locomotive alternators, generators, and motors, including AC and DC power control systems, main and auxiliary electrical cabinets, lighting, batteries, and wiring/conduit.
  • Inspect, adjust, troubleshoot, and repair electrical components of various shop machinery and equipment, such as drop tables, may include some welding, mechanical, and electro-magnetic equipment, perform preventative maintenance on a variety of equipment, and machinery to ensure proper function.

Working Conditions: This position requires working in extreme all-weather conditions, walking and performing work on uneven surfaces, and working in a safety-sensitive work environment with loud noise and fumes. You will also be working on or around heavy/moving machinery.

Requirements:

  • At least 18 years of age, or will be by the anticipated start date listed above.
  • Able to report for duty at the designated work location.
  • Able to work safely in the above working conditions.
  • Able to work the above shift/hours.
  • Able to read, write, and communicate (speak, hear, and understand) in English.
  • Able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds without assistance.
  • Able to visually distinguish colors - red, blue, green, yellow, and lunar (clear light).
  • Able to discriminate and differentiate between verbal and non-verbal sounds (signals, alarms, etc.) in the work environment.
  • Able to use hands and use hand tools to perform activities involving holding, grasping, turning, and pulling.
  • Able to climb ladders; get on/off equipment.
  • Able to bend, walk, stand, and sit occasionally with breaks.
  • Able to occasionally work at various heights above the ground, including working on top of a locomotive.

Preferred Qualifications: 4 years of practical experience in electrical work. Company-paid on-the-job training. Relocation assistance not available. Union dues required per union agreement. Probationary period: Journeyman - 60 days, Apprentice - 122 working days.
