About the Role

AECOM is seeking a talented Project Engineer to support our Water, Wastewater, and Water Resources practice based in Rocky Hill, CT.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provides technical support for a variety of utility design related projects, including treatment plants, pump/booster stations, water line and collection line design, rehabilitation, master planning, and construction administration.
  • Creates designs, calculations, sketches, diagrams, schematic drawings, and final working drawings.
  • Works under supervision of a senior project manager in the water/wastewater/water resources practice or senior level team members.
  • Utilizes basic engineering principles, judgement, theories, practices, and existing technologies to develop solutions for technical problems.
  • Works on routine or detailed engineering assignments involving calculations and engineering analyses.
  • Performs work with little supervision.
  • Proposes approaches to solve new problems.
  • Identifies discrepancies in outcomes, results, and analysis of engineering tasks.
  • Participates in interdisciplinary review of project deliverables.
  • Provides guidance to entry-level engineers.
  • Records field data using tablets and GPS units.
  • Records and interprets data, conducts analyses, prepares reports, and compares findings to relevant studies and local, state, and federal regulations to ensure compliance.
  • Performs data gathering site visits, field measurements, mapping, and observations during construction.
  • Performs quality control review of design calculations or drawings.
  • Software use includes, but is not limited to: AutoCAD Civil 3D, ArcGIS and Microsoft Office programs.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, Environmental Engineering or related discipline + 4 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • Minimum of 2+ years' experience in planning, modeling, and/or design of water, wastewater, and stormwater utility projects.
  • Professional Engineer, or ability to obtain PE licensure within one (1) year of employment.
  • Progressive experience with water/wastewater utility planning, modeling, condition assessment, and design.
  • Basic knowledge of industry standard computer software for the position (examples include software such as CADD, HCS, AutoCAD, GIS, Hydrologic/Hydraulic models).
  • Demonstrated time management skills, work ethic and attention to detail.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate and coordinate effectively with technicians, designers, engineers, and project managers for the preparation of high-quality work products.
  • Ability to communicate and coordinate with clients, subconsultants, regulatory agencies, and members of the public as may be necessary to accomplish assigned objectives.
  • Ability to work productively in a collaborative team environment and demonstrate growth potential as well as a desire to learn.
  • Detail oriented while still able to understand/comply with the big picture/goals of a project.
  • Ability to multi-task and work independently.
  • Flexible – can adapt to shifting priorities / work schedules.
