Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Clinical Histology Technician to join our team at MD Anderson Center. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the histology laboratory team and ensuring the highest quality of histopathology services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assume lead role in the absence of the Laboratory Supervisor and ensure seamless laboratory operations.
  • Collaborate with the Laboratory Supervisor to determine work priorities and ensure adequate personnel coverage.
  • Work independently, adhering to standard operating procedures and policies, and exercise good judgment, particularly in situations requiring supervisory skills.
  • Prepare histology materials using established departmental procedures and demonstrate high-quality technical skills, performing all laboratory duties in accordance with established safety guidelines.
  • Assist with all aspects of specimen processing, including sorting, identifying, accessioning, and labeling specimens, blocks, and slides, utilizing the laboratory informatics system to document workflow, track, and identify specimens.
  • Inventory laboratory supplies, prepare reagents and solutions, maintain and clean laboratory equipment, and participate in quality assurance and CAP inspections.
  • Review patient material as part of section quality assurance and participate in laboratory quality control processes, evaluating new equipment, procedures, and techniques, and participating in their implementation.
  • Assist in training new laboratory personnel and students, and participate in quality assurance and CAP inspections.
  • Assist in modifying and/or developing new procedures.
Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent required. Five years of Histology Technician experience required. Associate's degree with three years of experience in histopathology within the last ten years under the supervision of a pathologist (certified by the American Board of Pathology in Anatomic Pathology, or eligible) or an appropriately certified medical scientist. National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science (NAACLS) accredited Histotechnician program with one year of required experience. Histology Technician (HT) certification with the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP).
