Job Overview

PAYROLL SPECIALIST (Full-time, Hourly, Non-Exempt)

This role is centered around the execution of computerized payroll processes and providing support to the Controller in various financial tasks.

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Associate's Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or a related discipline, along with two (2) years of experience in payroll or accounting preferred; or a combination of education, training, and experience that equips the individual with the necessary knowledge and skills to excel in this position.
  • Understanding of fundamental accounting principles, relevant laws, policies, and regulations.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience in data collection, entry, and reporting with a strong emphasis on detail and confidentiality.
  • A minimum of two years of payroll experience is required. Familiarity with Paylocity for payroll operations is preferred.
  • Experience with employee benefits and additional accounting functions is advantageous.
  • Ability to work independently and address complex issues in a timely manner.
Key Responsibilities
  • Calculate employee compensation based on hours worked, including various types of leave and overtime.
  • Gather and confirm timesheets for accuracy.
  • Execute payroll processing and electronically transmit data to Paylocity for check and direct deposit preparation.
  • Ensure all payroll operations adhere to company policies.
  • Prepare monthly payroll and accounting journal entries, including various balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Provide training to new employees on the Paylocity system.
  • Calculate and manage retirement contributions.
  • Administer taxable fringe benefits.
  • Process administrative deposits and assist with recording wire deposits to the general ledger.
  • Calculate and submit monthly sales tax returns.
  • Act as a backup for various functions in purchasing, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Employment Qualifications
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record is required.
  • A minimum of a high school diploma or GED equivalent is required.
  • Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English is required.
Supervisory Duties

This position does not include supervisory responsibilities.

Work Schedule

This role involves eight (8) hour shifts with the possibility of a one-hour unpaid break, five days a week. The schedule may be subject to change at any time, with or without notice. Additional policies regarding this position are outlined in the current policies and procedures manual.
