Job DescriptionPOSITION SUMMARY

The Culinary Runner plays a crucial role in the seamless operation of food service by accurately assembling food orders and delivering them to various outlets and kitchen areas. This position involves verifying food orders and requisitions, preparing the necessary items, and ensuring timely delivery. Additionally, the Culinary Runner is responsible for maintaining cleanliness in all food preparation areas, including storage spaces such as dry storage and walk-in coolers.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure food quality meets the standards aligned with the restaurant's operational flow.
  • Utilize creative presentation techniques to enhance the visual appeal of dishes.
  • Monitor food quality and communicate any issues to the culinary team.
  • Assist in the layout preparation of outlets under the guidance of management and culinary staff.
  • Notify kitchen staff of required food items before supplies run low.
  • Organize and store props and equipment systematically for future use.
  • Keep management updated on equipment and supply shortages.
  • Return all tools and equipment to designated storage areas, taking care to prevent damage.
  • Adhere to safe handling practices for all chemicals utilized.
  • Report any malfunctioning equipment to management promptly.
  • Familiarize oneself with the location and operation of fire safety equipment.
  • Practice safe working habits to minimize risks to oneself and colleagues.
  • Comply with all sanitation protocols.
  • Maintain a proactive stance on health, safety, and security for all staff members.
  • Remain vigilant for potential hazards and alert management as needed.
  • Ensure public areas and exit routes are unobstructed.
  • Follow all personal protective equipment (PPE) guidelines.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Preferred qualifications include bilingual capabilities, basic literacy and numeracy skills, and some experience or training in food preparation. A background in luxury service is advantageous. A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred, along with prior experience in the hospitality sector.

  • Most tasks are performed indoors with a controlled temperature environment; however, the ability to work in extreme temperatures, such as freezers and kitchens, is required.
  • Must be capable of standing and moving efficiently for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift, bend, and carry various kitchen items regularly.
  • Must be able to maneuver carts and equipment as needed.
  • Requires agility to navigate between multiple functions occurring simultaneously.
  • Exposure to noise levels that may require shouting to communicate effectively.
  • Tasks involve a variety of physical movements including grasping, writing, and visual acuity.
  • Continuous communication with guests and team members is essential.
  • Manual dexterity is necessary for operating kitchen equipment.
  • Must possess a valid CA Food Handlers Certificate and CA RBS Server Number at the time of hire.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Kitchen, dining outlets, and other areas within the hotel.
