Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Staff Software Engineer to join our team at Walmart Global Tech. As a Staff Software Engineer, you will play a key role in driving the development of complex software changes and leading the design of new features. You will work closely with senior and junior teammates to cultivate a reciprocal learning environment and drive processes and standards within the team.

About the Role

This is a challenging and rewarding role that requires a strong technical background and excellent leadership skills. As a Staff Software Engineer, you will be responsible for:

  • Providing technical leadership and using engineering best practices to initiate, plan, and execute large-scale, cross-functional, and company-wide projects.
  • Demonstrating craftsmanship and producing high-quality software that is unit-tested, code-reviewed, and checked in regularly for continuous integration.
  • Investigating and building proof-of-concept prototypes using new technologies and driving their adoption within the mainstream product.
  • Working with Walmart's Web Platform community to drive improvement to the overall foundation on which Walmart.com stands.
  • Identifying, leveraging, and successfully evangelizing opportunities to improve engineering productivity, product quality, and efficiency.
  • Generating technical documentation and presentations to communicate architectural and design options and educate development, product, and business teams.
  • Managing and maintaining multiple production and non-production environments, ensuring that these environments are set up with the standard automated build and release processes and deliver with quality and reliability.
  • Building, leveraging, and analyzing tools, application logs, and analytics data to determine improvements to the product and engineering services.
  • Monitoring the health of web pages and working cross-functionally with partner teams such as Site Ops, Network, Storage, Systems, Monitoring, and Application teams.
  • Setting high standards for operational excellence and system observability.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • 5+ years of experience with software development and architecture.
  • 3+ years of experience with developing and operating GraphQL APIs.
  • Experience and/or interest in building tooling that makes your engineering colleagues successful.
  • Experience and/or interest in Ruby, Rails, architecture, developer tooling, and agile and lean software development.
  • 5+ years of experience developing and deploying backend APIs or full-stack applications.
  • 5+ years of development experience.
  • 2+ years of recent AWS experience (services used - Ec2, s3, Lambda, Serverless, RDS, CLI).
  • Adept in API development and NodeJS.
  • Experience with TypeScript.
