Position Overview
This full-time position offers numerous benefits. As a valued employee of Missoula County, you will contribute to the betterment of the community. The compensation for this role is $34.57 per hour, depending on experience.
The Public Works Department is looking for a PROJECT ENGINEER to provide technical support and perform engineering tasks related to infrastructure projects, including bridges, culverts, levees, and stormwater management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct field inspections of county-maintained structures to ensure compliance with federal standards.
- Identify structural deficiencies and recommend maintenance or replacement actions.
- Maintain detailed records of inspections and repairs for all county-maintained assets.
- Assist in the design and planning of bridge repairs and new constructions.
- Prepare cost estimates for engineering projects.
- Provide oversight for construction activities and ensure adherence to plans and specifications.
- Coordinate with various departments and agencies on infrastructure maintenance and reporting.
- Perform stormwater inspections to prevent pollution and ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
- Review and approve permits related to land use and construction.
- Participate in engineering meetings and assist with subdivision reviews.
Qualifications:
- A Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field is required. Equivalent experience may be considered.
- Three years of experience in civil engineering or civil construction is preferred. Applicants with six years of experience without a degree will also be considered.
- Experience in construction plan development and oversight is desirable.
- Must possess a valid Montana Driver's license and be licensed as a Professional Engineer or Engineering Intern.
- Certification as an FHWA Bridge Inspector and Level II SWPPP Administrator is required or must be obtained within one year of hire.
Physical Demands:
Approximately 50% of the work involves sitting at a computer, while the other 50% includes fieldwork requiring physical activity such as walking on uneven surfaces, climbing, and lifting. The role may involve working in various weather conditions and environments.
