Military and Family Life Counselor Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Military and Family Life Counselor to join our team at VetJobs. As a Military and Family Life Counselor, you will provide non-medical, short-term, solution-focused counseling directly to eligible service members and their families at assigned primary and secondary locations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide counseling services to military members and their families, including assessment, brief counseling, and consultation.
  • Develop and implement effective counseling plans to address the unique needs of military families.
  • Work closely with installation command, military branch Points of Contact, and regional supervisors to ensure the program meets the needs of the installation.
  • Deliver training and health and wellness presentations, participate in health fairs, and other base/installation activities as requested.
  • Enter counselor activity data daily through a smartphone or web application to ensure accurate reporting.
  • Establish and maintain working relationships with community resources and provide appropriate linkages for service members and their families.
  • Participate in regular individual and group supervision, sharing information regarding trends and issues on the installations to which the counselor is assigned.
Requirements:
  • Master's degree from an accredited graduate program in a relevant field of study, such as social work, psychology, marriage/family therapy, or counseling.
  • Valid unrestricted independent counseling license from a State, District of Columbia, US Territory, or Commonwealth that grants authority to provide counseling services as an independent practitioner.
  • A minimum of 2 years of post-licensure clinical experience.
  • Ability to engage and communicate with military members or children as assigned, in order to accomplish job functions, and to respond quickly to emergent situations in any physical location on a military installation and/or within a school setting.
