Key Responsibilities:

  • Schedule and plan assignments to ensure efficient workflow and productivity.
  • Provide feedback and guidance to Laboratory Support Technicians during performance reviews.
  • Assist leadership on projects of medium complexity and size.
  • Orient new staff members to laboratory procedures and protocols.
  • Perform various waived testing and loading/unloading of lab specimens from automated and non-automated instrumentation.
  • Assist customers with inquiries and provide excellent customer service.
  • Assist laboratory staff in daily operations, including collecting, labeling, processing, and preserving blood, urine, and other specimens.
  • Enter, access, and execute lab orders in laboratory and electronic medical record systems.
  • Assist pre-analytical laboratory staff with competency assessments.
  • Clean and maintain laboratory supplies and work area.
  • Update statistical records, labels tubes, and schedules processing runs.
  • Perform moderate complexity testing and phlebotomy.
  • Identify patients using two identifiers.
  • Perform administrative and clerical duties, including admission activities, insurance verification, order entry processing, and medical record processing.
  • Work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.

Requirements:

  • High School diploma/GED or 10 years of work experience.
  • Two years' experience as a Lab Support Technician.

Physical Requirements:

  • Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0-25 lbs.
  • Frequent sitting, standing, walking, reaching, and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements.
  • Frequent use of vision and depth perception for distances near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more) and to identify and distinguish colors.
  • Frequent use of hearing and speech to share information through oral communication.
  • Frequent keyboard use/data entry.
  • Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting, and gripping.
  • Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 25-50 lbs.
  • Rare climbing.
