Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Photonic Systems Firmware Engineer to join our team at Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL). As a member of the Advanced Technologies section in the Optics and Photonics group, you will work at the intersection of digital and photonic systems, contributing to projects in optical communications, precision synchronization, and control of advanced photonic systems for state-of-the-art applications.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop digital control systems for optical communications, precision synchronization, and other advanced applications.
  • Read, interpret, and design schematics for subsystems that bridge the digital, RF, and optical domains.
  • Communicate results through writing and slides to task leads and program leadership.
  • Support the development and fielding of advanced photonic prototypes for multiple applications.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in computer or electrical engineering, physics, or related technical discipline.
  • 3+ years of experience developing firmware and software for optical communications and precision synchronization applications.
  • Strong understanding of communication and synchronization protocols.
  • Ability to obtain a Top Secret level security clearance.
  • Willingness to travel to field sites and work in a laboratory environment.
