Job Summary

This is a full-time position that requires a minimum of 2 years of mechanical experience, preferably with a focus on diesel engines. As a Diesel Mechanic - Transit System Specialist, you will be responsible for repairing and maintaining our fleet of buses, trucks, and other equipment to ensure safe operation. You will also be involved in the training of vehicle repairs and will be required to clean and secure buildings as needed.

Responsibilities
  1. Organize and assign work and/or tasks to mechanics or other maintenance department personnel, ensuring efficient use of resources.
  2. Repair and maintain transit buses, trucks, automobiles, and related equipment to ensure safe operation, including troubleshooting and diagnosing issues.
  3. Start buses to prepare for morning pullout, operate wheelchair lifts for performance evaluation and repairs, and inspect, adjust, and repair/replaces basic systems.
  4. Coordinate set up of emergency road calls and repairs, perform tow truck operations when necessary, and clean own work area after each job is completed.
  5. Assist in the training of vehicle repairs, clean, fuel, and park buses as needed, order, locate, and put away parts and/or supplies, and perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you must have:

  • 2 years of mechanical experience, preferably with a focus on diesel engines.
  • A CDL Class A license and be able to pass a DOT physical.
  • The ability to lift up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly.
  • Physical activity that includes, but is not limited to, lifting, pushing, pulling parts on vehicles, crouching, kneeling, stooping to work on brakes and other vehicle parts, hearing to detect engine noises, reaching below waist, waist to shoulder, and above shoulder to repair vehicles, rolling tires, turning screws and bolts, using chisels, pliers, ratchets, screwdriver, and other tools, and utilizing repetitive movements.
