Job Overview

The Healthcare Collections Specialist plays a crucial role in managing the financial aspects of patient accounts. This position is tasked with verifying insurance eligibility and collecting outstanding payments. Collaboration with management and team members is essential to address and resolve any billing and reimbursement challenges.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engage directly with patients to discuss their financial obligations.
  • Initiate contact with patients through phone calls, texts, or letters regarding outstanding balances.
  • Accurately document all communications in the billing system.
  • Generate reports on overdue patient/self-pay accounts regularly.
  • Establish payment plans in accordance with company policies.
  • Oversee the Hardship program and assess patient needs.
  • Manage self-pay accounts that remain unpaid.
  • Communicate with insurance providers to verify eligibility and benefits.
  • Update patient information, including demographics and payment preferences.
  • Utilize the Patient Hub/AR dashboard effectively.
  • Assist in resolving unidentified or unverified payments.
  • Regularly review collection agency reports for payment updates.
  • Process refund requests for patients or insurance companies when applicable.
  • Follow up on insurance claims related to denials and appeals.
  • Support additional billing and collection tasks as required.

Qualifications:

· High School Diploma or equivalent; an Associate's Degree is preferred.

· A minimum of 2 years of experience in medical billing and collections is required.

· Familiarity with Explanation of Benefits (EOBs) and understanding of copays, coinsurance, deductibles, and denial codes.

· Strong attention to detail and the ability to prioritize tasks independently.

· Experience with Brightree billing and patient collections systems is a plus.

· Capability to multitask in a fast-paced office environment.

· Excellent customer service skills.

· Intermediate proficiency in MS Office applications.

Work Environment:

This position is typically performed in a standard office environment, where tasks are conducted without exposure to adverse conditions. Frequent interaction with colleagues and the public is expected. The role involves using a headset and navigating multiple systems while addressing inquiries in real-time.

Physical Requirements:

Employees must have the mobility to work in an office setting, with the ability to sit or stand for extended periods, operate office equipment, and communicate effectively.

Vision and Hearing:

Employees should possess normal vision capabilities, with or without correction, to read computer screens and printed materials, as well as normal hearing abilities to engage in conversations.
