Job Summary:

As a Cardiovascular Technologist, Cath Lab Specialist at Kaiser Permanente, you will play a vital role in assisting credentialed providers with diagnostic, interventional, and therapeutic procedures within the cardiac and vascular laboratory environments. Your primary responsibility will be to perform all duties in a manner that promotes teamwork and reflects the organization's mission and philosophy goals, working under the direct supervision of a credentialed provider.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Scrub Assistant/Monitor/Recorder: Serve as a scrub assistant or monitor/recorder for cardiology and radiology studies, preparing and positioning patients for invasive procedures.
  • Cardiovascular Tests and Recordings: Assist with cardiovascular tests, record patients' hemodynamic activity using specialized electronic test equipment, recording devices, and laboratory instruments.
  • Patient Care and Safety: Manage patient arterial and venous access sites post-procedure, including removal of sheaths and safe management of hemostatic devices.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Set up, maintain, and troubleshoot Intra Aortic Balloon Pump when required.
  • Cardiac Arrhythmias and Hemodynamic Waveforms: Recognize cardiac arrhythmias and hemodynamic waveforms and alert credentialed providers and other team members during procedures and according to protocol.
  • Medication Administration: Administer intra-coronary and/or intra-arterial medications under direct supervision of the physician.
  • Sterile Field Preparation: Prepare and maintain sterile field using aseptic technique for testing.
  • Hemodynamic and Monitoring Equipment: Prepare, maintain, and operate hemodynamic and monitoring equipment.
  • IV Administration: Start and maintain IV with appropriate training and certification.
  • Point of Care Tests: Maintain proficiencies to perform point of care tests on lab equipment such as activated clotting time (ACT), oxygen saturations, and arterial blood gases (ABG).
  • Patient Education: Perform patient teaching of procedures.
  • Call and On-Site Response: Work on call and respond on-site within 30 minutes of call.
  • Supply Restocking and Cleanliness: Restock supplies and maintain a clean work area.
  • Quality Assurance and Equipment Troubleshooting: Actively perform quality assurance functions, troubleshoot equipment problems, and initiate vendor service calls.
  • Patient Transportation: Assist with transportation of patients.
Basic Qualifications:
  • Education and Experience: Successful completion of an accredited invasive cardiovascular technologist training program or two (2) years education in an allied health science such as nursing, respiratory therapy, radiographic technology, or emergency medicine technology, and possess comparable work experience with at least two (2) years recent on-the-job training in an Interventional Cath Lab Environment.
  • Per the National Agreement: Current KP Coalition employees have this experience requirement waived.
License, Certification, Registration:
  • Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist Certificate: Within 12 months of hire.
  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists Certificate: Vascular Interventional Radiography or Cardiac Interventional Radiography within 12 months of hire.
  • Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist Certificate: Within 12 months of hire.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support: Certification.
  • Basic Life Support: Certification.
Additional Requirements:
  • Call-Back Response: Able to comply with thirty (30) minute call-back to the facility when on call for emergencies.
  • Cardiac Dysrhythmias: Ability to recognize and interpret cardiac dysrhythmias.
  • Analytical Abilities: Analytical abilities necessary to monitor and assess patient condition and to perform hemodynamic calculation for diagnosis of heart disease.
  • Teamwork: Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience: Five (5) years recent interventional cath lab experience.
  • Certifications: Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) for Cardiovascular Labs, or Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES) for Electrophysiology.
