Job Summary

Northwell Health is seeking a skilled Computed Tomography/Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologist to join our team. As a CT/MRI Technologist, you will be responsible for operating CT and MRI equipment, preparing patients for examination, and ensuring that proper information is obtained for the physician to make a diagnosis.

Key Responsibilities
  • Preparation and Imaging
    • Prepare patients for examination by explaining the procedure in easy-to-understand terms and setting up equipment to administer the proper procedure in a timely fashion.
    • Operate CT and MRI equipment to obtain high-quality images, ensuring that the required images are obtained as ordered by the Radiologist.
    • Position patients within the gantry and key in patient history data and other pertinent information obtained from a requisition completed by the Radiologist.
  • Contrast Administration
    • Administer intravenous (IV) and oral contrast agents as per Radiologist order, verifying that there are no contraindications to administration of the IV contrast agent.
    • Calculate contrast dose based on patient's weight and perform venipuncture of the appropriate gauge necessary for examination.
    • Utilize appropriate flush technique for an existing IV line and recognize and assist in the treatment of contrast agent reactions and IV extravasations.
  • Image Transfer and Management
    • Operate equipment for the transfer of computed images to film, the archival of disc memory to optical disk and/or a picture archiving and communication system (PACS).
    • Transmit cases to on-call Radiologist through use of Tele-Radiology system.
  • Quality and Safety
    • Ensure that proper information is obtained for the physician to make a diagnosis and that patients are prepared for examination in a timely and efficient manner.
    • Recognize and report any quality or safety issues related to patient care or equipment operation.
Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology Program.
  • New York State Department of Health licensure as a Radiologic Technologist.
  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) Registered Technologist (R.T.) required for positions filled after September 5, 2010.
  • Certification in IV Contrast Administration required within six (6) months of entry date into position.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support certification, required.
  • Previous experience as a Radiologic Technologist, required. Previous CT or MRI experience, preferred.
