Job Title: Medical Physicist

Tennessee Oncology is seeking a highly skilled Medical Physicist to join our team of healthcare professionals. As a Medical Physicist, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and effective delivery of radiation therapy to our patients.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Calibrate therapy equipment to ensure accurate radiation dose delivery.
  • Serve as the focal point for machine maintenance and repair, ensuring that all equipment is functioning properly and safely.
  • Direct the determination of radiation dose distributions in patients undergoing treatment, using computerized dosimetry planning or direct radiation measurement.
  • Maintain accurate records necessary for regulatory agencies, including APEx, NRC, and state requirements.
  • Design and implement quality management programs that involve the use of external beam radiotherapy equipment.
  • Manage the medical physics service to meet or exceed established standards of practice, consistent with the facility size and available resources.
  • Evaluate new technologies and implement as needed, including acceptance testing of new equipment and treatment devices.
  • Consult with radiation oncologists on patient doses and optimization of patient treatment plans and delivery.
  • Provide technical direction to radiation oncology staff, as specified by the Director of Medical Physics.
Requirements and Qualifications:
  • A Master's or Doctor's degree in physics, biophysics, radiological physics, or health physics.
  • One year of full-time training in therapeutic radiological physics.
  • One year of full-time experience in a therapy facility, including personal calibration and spot check of at least one teletherapy unit.
Preferred Experience:
  • Completion of a clinical medical physics residency program.
  • Board certification by the American Board of Radiology in Therapeutic Radiological Physics.
  • Extensive knowledge of radiation safety principles and current rules and regulations of the State of Tennessee Department of Environment & Conservation Department of Radiological Health (TDECDRH) and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC).
  • Experience and fluency in modern treatment planning software systems, including Aria and RayStation.
  • Proficient in using radiation-measuring equipment for calibration and quality assurance, treatment planning computers, and oncology information systems in a paperless environment.
  • Excellent overall understanding of all activities of a proton and photon radiation therapy department.
