Child Safety Specialists are eligible for step increases based on their tenure:

Key Responsibilities:
  • Make informed decisions regarding child safety, risk assessment, permanency, and overall well-being by utilizing agency assessment tools and case plans, while employing Family-Centered Practice strategies. This includes gathering and analyzing information, collaborating with families, and formulating safety plans.
  • Efficiently organize, prioritize, and plan work activities, consulting with supervisors as needed to address high-risk cases in a timely manner.
  • Manage conflicts, complaints, and grievances from clients, conducting thorough investigations, drawing conclusions, and developing case plans based on established principles.
  • Collect information from diverse sources, maintain accurate records, and ensure compliance with relevant standards and regulations.
  • Evaluate information, collaborate with supervisors, and ensure alignment with division values and objectives.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge of:

  • Federal and state child welfare laws, policies, and practices
  • Normal stages of child development

Preferred Qualifications:

A Bachelor's degree in social work or a related field, along with relevant experience in child welfare, is preferred. Additional training, mentoring, and professional development are also advantageous.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

Clearance from the DCS Central Registry, a minimum of 18 months of experience as a DCS Specialist, no formal disciplinary actions, and a recent performance score of 3.0 or higher are required.

If driving is a component of the role, compliance with State vehicle requirements is mandatory.
