Compensation Overview
At Midland States Bank, the base salary is a key element of our Total Rewards program. Position Overview
The Banking Associate Trainee role is focused on providing exceptional customer experiences to both existing and prospective clients. Individuals in this position will demonstrate effective communication abilities and possess a solid understanding of the products and services available. They will also be tasked with identifying referral opportunities that lead to outcomes reflective of outstanding customer service.

Employees will remain in the trainee capacity until they can effectively match customers with the appropriate products and services through needs-based inquiries. Regular achievement of performance and production targets set by the Banking Center Manager is essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Acquire a comprehensive understanding of banking operations.
  • Process cash and checks for deposits, ensuring accuracy and reviewing for potential fraud.
  • Carefully examine cash to prevent acceptance of counterfeit bills.
  • Cash checks for clients in line with bank policies, accurately entering transactions into the system and issuing receipts.
  • Deliver precise customer service, including balancing the cash drawer throughout the day to minimize discrepancies.
  • Possess a foundational knowledge of deposit and lending products and services.
  • Identify appropriate product types through needs-based inquiries to foster and enhance customer relationships, including determining needs and referring to business partners.
  • Assist with basic deposit account openings and maintenance requests under the guidance of a senior employee.
  • Develop sales and product knowledge to meet personal and team objectives, tracking sales and opportunities in customer information software.
  • Engage in onsite visits to clients to promote the Employee Perks at Work Program and Merchant Services.
  • Actively participate in outbound teleconsulting to strengthen existing client relationships.
  • Contribute to weekly team meetings and one-on-one coaching sessions.
  • Serve as a relief and/or backup teller at various Midland States Bank locations.
  • Complete all assigned learning activities in a timely manner.
  • Exemplify and uphold Midland States Bank's core values that support the organizational culture.
  • Participate in community activities and initiatives sponsored by the bank.
  • Occasional travel may be required for training and team meetings, with a willingness to travel to various locations as necessary.
  • May require work in a Midland office to ensure collaboration and support for both internal and external clients.
  • Maintain compliance with all relevant regulations, including the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education/Experience:

  • Background in sales and customer service.

Skills Required:

  • Ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Capability to lift and transport coin and currency bags as necessary (weights may range from 25lbs to 50lbs).
