Job Summary

The City of Fremont, CA is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Assistant Chef to join our team. As an Assistant Chef, you will be responsible for assisting in the preparation, cooking, and serving of meals for seniors and catering engagements. You will work under the direction of the Chef/Food Services Manager and will be responsible for maintaining a clean and safe kitchen environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the preparation and cooking of meals for seniors and catering engagements
  • Maintain a clean and safe kitchen environment
  • Assist in the receiving and inventory of food and kitchen supplies
  • Participate in all aspects of meal preparation
  • Ensure proper food temperatures and storage practices are followed
  • Oversee the use of kitchen knives and equipment
  • Conduct inventory of food and kitchen supplies
  • Notify the Chef/Food Services Manager of equipment maintenance and repair needs
  • Participate in the set up and break down of the food serving line
  • Participate in the serving of food
  • Receive and respond to customer requests
Requirements
  • Eighteen (18) months of experience in food preparation in a quantity food services facility
  • Course work in a culinary program and/or an accredited vocational institution which includes quantity food preparation, equipment sanitation, and safe work practices
  • Possession of a valid Class C California Driver's License
  • A valid California Food Handler Certificate and negative Tuberculosis (TB) test
Working Conditions

The Assistant Chef will work in a fast-paced kitchen environment and will be required to lift up to 10 pounds frequently and up to 25 pounds occasionally. The Assistant Chef will also be required to stand for long periods of time and will be exposed to extreme hot and cold temperatures.
