Job Summary:

Operate a crawler or rubber-tired machine mounted with an excavator bucket to perform excavation, construction, and maintenance tasks. Ensure compliance with safety policies and procedures, and participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Start engines, move throttles, switches, and levers, and depress pedals to operate machines.
  • Signal truck driver to position truck to facilitate loading of dirt, rocks, and other materials.
  • Take actions to avoid potential hazards and obstructions such as utility lines, other equipment, other workers, and falling objects.
  • May oil, grease, or otherwise service the machine.
  • Make necessary adjustments to equipment as needed.
  • Comply with all safety policies, practices, and procedures. Report all unsafe activities to supervisor and/or Human Resources.
  • Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.
  • Provide leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge/skill.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED is preferred but not required.
  • Three or more years related construction experience preferred.
  • Physical Activity Level: Heavy physical activity performing strenuous day activities of a primarily productive/technical nature.
  • Manual Dexterity: Manual dexterity sufficient to reach/handle items and work with the fingers. Ability to perceive attributes of objects and materials.
  • Working Conditions: Outdoor exposure to changing weather conditions (rain, sun, snow, wind, etc.).
  • Work Environment: The work environment/physical demands characteristics described here are representative of those the employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
