Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated School Nurse to join our team at Shiprock Associated Schools, Inc. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing high-quality healthcare services to students, staff, and faculty.

Key Responsibilities
  • Comply with and support all Shiprock Associated Schools' policies and procedures, including guidelines related to COVID-19 and other health emergencies.
  • Integrate the school philosophy and mission statement into the area of work, promoting a healthy and safe learning environment.
  • Maintain accurate and current student health records, ensuring confidentiality and security.
  • Respond to medical emergencies, coordinate routine student exams, and administer prescribed medication as needed.
  • Ensure all immunization records are current, evaluate records for new students, and contact parents/guardians in the event of student illness/medical emergency.
  • Administer prescribed medication, secure and protect confidentiality of all school information, and apply nursing theory as the basis for decision making.
  • Participate with community and regional health care providers to promote health, safety, and wellness, distribute health alerts/information as necessary, and perform personnel functions of supervising, training, and delegation of duties.
  • Collect and report data concerning student health status, serve as a healthy role model for students, families, and staff, and maintain supply inventory and keep records of all distributions of supplies.
  • Participate and be available for home athletic events, demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively and work with students, parents, staff, and community members, and attend all staff meetings in assigned department.
  • Responsible for own professional growth through an on-going program of reading, workshops, seminars, conferences, and/or advanced course work at institutions of higher learning, and perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Must have a current Nurse License (RN) or be able to acquire NM PED School Nurse License.
  • Bachelor of Science in nursing is preferred.
  • Associates in nursing or a related field are required.
  • A minimum of two years' experience in school nursing is required.
  • The ability to work in an environment with varying noise, temperature, and air quality levels is required.
  • Must be flexible and adapt to different work locations.
  • Must be able to work independently without direct supervision.
  • Must be computer literate and proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Must be knowledgeable of Federal, State, and Tribal school health regulations.
  • Must be able to organize and prioritize work and to meet deadlines.
  • Must have First Aid/CPR certification and a Navajo Nation food handler's permit.
  • Bilingual (Dine'/English) preferred.
  • Must be able to meet minimum physical requirements.
  • Must have a valid driver's license with an insurable driving record.
