Network Security Engineer for Transport Operations

Position Overview:


Leidos is seeking a dedicated Transport Operations Network Security & Information Assurance Engineer to contribute to the 'Service Management, Integration and Transport' (SMIT) Contract. This role is integral to the support of the Navy-Marine Corps Intranet (NMCI), which serves as the largest IT services program for the United States Navy.

As a key member of our Transport Operations team, you will be instrumental in the design, implementation, and maintenance of comprehensive global network security solutions.

Your proficiency with network security technologies, including firewalls, DMZ configurations, intrusion prevention systems (IPS), and secure VPNs, will be essential.

Collaboration with cross-functional teams will be vital to ensure the integrity and security of our network infrastructure against evolving threats and vulnerabilities.

In this role, you will manage customer interactions and oversee critical resources for Incident Response, Change Management, Problem Management, Operations and Maintenance (O&M), and IT Service Management (ITSM) as well as DevSecOps initiatives.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert guidance in Network Security and Network Engineering for the United States Navy's extensive Intranet.


The successful candidate will engage in network modifications, design, integration, testing, security, and implementation of Transport Services for the NMCI network.

You will work closely with the Network Operations Center, Network Administrators, and the Transport Operations Network Engineering Team to enhance and refine:

  • Network Security Appliances (e.g., IPS, DMZ, VPN, Firewalls, Load Balancers)

  • Validate automation and best practice integration opportunities.
  • Lead the development of Network Security Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures (TTPs).
  • Drive Continuous Service Improvements (CSI).
  • Optimize system performance and enhancements.
  • Create and maintain Engineering Implementation Plans (EIP).
  • Possess extensive knowledge of defense-in-depth principles, Network and Security architecture, and common networking security elements.
  • Plan and execute network upgrades and maintenance activities in collaboration with key stakeholders.
  • Provide Tier III escalation support and engage with vendors for Incident Management.
  • Actively participate in Root Cause Analysis for Problem Management.

Qualifications:

  • B.S. Degree with 8–12 years of relevant experience or a Master's with 6–10 years of experience. A Doctorate in a technical domain may substitute for experience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Active Secret clearance or ability to obtain an Interim Secret clearance.
  • DoD IAT Level III Certification required prior to onboarding: CISSP or CASP.
  • Associate level Network Vendor Certification from recognized vendors required prior to onboarding.
  • Willingness to work during off-hours as needed.
  • Participate in on-call rotation for Incident Management.
  • Act as a Network Security & Information Assurance Subject Matter Expert for operations.
  • Engage in engineering meetings for production deployments.
  • Perform technical maintenance and configuration for firewalls, VPNs, IPS, and load balancers.
  • Conduct Information Assurance related changes.
  • Demonstrated experience in engineering and troubleshooting networks, including routing, switching, and emerging technologies.
  • Strong understanding of IP network addressing.
  • Experience in developing and maintaining technical documentation and reports.
  • Familiarity with the ITIL framework.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% including potential OCONUS travel.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting the NGEN-NMCI program.
  • Experience in a DoD program environment.
  • Familiarity with Aruba ClearPass Policy Manager.
  • Advanced vendor certifications.
  • Experience in NET/SEC DevOps.
  • ITIL v3/v4 certification or training.
  • Agile certifications or relevant experience.

Compensation:
Salary range is $87,000 to $157,450. The pay range serves as a guideline and is not a guarantee of compensation. Factors influencing offers include job responsibilities, education, experience, skills, and internal equity.
