About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to lead our systems engineering team at TRS Staffing Solutions. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for designing and optimizing compressor systems for energy infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Project Coordination: Coordinate directly with clients to identify project needs, develop project scoping documents, and support project execution.
  • Design and Engineering: Lead the design and engineering of compression systems, ensuring they meet a wide range of performance requirements and comply with relevant standards and regulations.
  • Deliverables Preparation: Prepare and review various engineering deliverables, including Process Flow Diagrams, heat and material balances, P&I Diagrams, Cause & Effect Diagrams, control philosophies, shutdown philosophies, HAZOP Studies & reports, Operation & Maintenance Manuals, etc.
  • Specifications and Data Sheets: Prepare and review specifications and data sheets for compressors, control systems, and related equipment.
  • Feasibility Studies and Performance Evaluations: Conduct feasibility studies and performance evaluations for new and retrofit compression projects.
  • Start-up, Performance Testing, and Troubleshooting: Participate in compressor, Engine and gas turbine start-up, performance testing, and troubleshooting.
  • Technical Support: Provide technical support to operations and maintenance teams for existing compression systems.
  • Root Cause Analysis and Preventive Measures: Troubleshoot performance issues and implement corrective actions to optimize system efficiency.
  • Client Document Review: Review of Client documents, specifications, datasheets, verification of FEED design & calculations.
  • Instrument Data Sheets and Specifications: Prepare and review instrument data sheets and specifications (control valves, PSV's, meters, etc.).
  • Project Planning, Cost Control, and Scheduling: Participate in planning, cost control, and scheduling for assigned projects.
  • TIC Estimates and Economic Analysis: Develop and review TIC estimates and economic analysis (maintenance and energy cost) for equipment selection.
  • Communication and Relationship Building: Maintain effective communication and relationships with project team members and clients, with a commitment to building enduring relationships leading to customer satisfaction and loyalty.
  • RFQs, Vendor Evaluation, and Technical Bid Analysis: Prepare and issue RFQs, evaluate vendor's quotations, clarifications, Technical Bid Analysis, etc.
  • Vendor Document Review: Review of vendor's documents, drawings, datasheets, specifications, and calculations.
  • Equipment Vendor Coordination: Coordinate with equipment vendors to develop project scope and execute detailed engineering.
  • Torsional and Acoustic Analysis: Coordinate with torsional and acoustic analysis companies to ensure design is mechanically sound and components are properly selected.
Requirements
  • Strong Communication Skills: Strong verbal, written, and communication skills with the ability to clearly communicate technical subject matter to a wide range of audiences.
  • Desire to Learn and Grow: Desire and ability to learn new skills and assume greater responsibilities.
  • Industry Knowledge: Familiarity in applicable industry codes and standards, including ASME, API, ISO, and NFPA.
  • Technical Knowledge: Knowledge of emissions control systems for engines and gas turbines, engine and gas turbine auxiliary systems, compressor auxiliary systems, and compressor control methods.
  • Project Management Skills: Ability to work effectively in a team environment, project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail and accuracy in work.
  • Travel Requirements: Ability to visit local refinery, midstream, and gas utility project sites for data gathering and inspections with occasional travel to farther locations.
Experience and Education Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree (or higher) in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Chemical Engineering is required.
  • Experience: 5+ years' experience in the selection, design, optimization, and troubleshooting of compressors.
  • Compressor Experience: Experience with various types of compressors and drivers (motors, engines, turbines).
  • Emissions Control Systems: Experience with a variety of emissions control systems.
  • Gas Compression Systems: Experience with gas compression systems for natural gas processing, transmission, or storage.
  • California Mechanical Professional Engineer License: California Mechanical Professional Engineer license is strongly preferred.
  • Energy Infrastructure Experience: Energy infrastructure experience is preferred.
  • Engineering Consulting and Equipment Packaging Experience: Engineering consulting and/or equipment packaging experience is preferred.
  • Software Experience: Experience with Ariel, DR Size, Leroi, Coolware, and eRCM software is preferred.
  • Driver's License: A valid driver's license and a clean driving record are required.
