Job Summary

As a proactive organization, BCNY adheres to health and safety regulations to safeguard our members and staff.

While full vaccination against COVID-19 is not mandatory for Harriman Base Camp employees, we strongly encourage vaccination and booster shots for all staff.

The Facilities Support Specialist will report to the Director of Camp Administration and Community Relations, with direct supervision from the Maintenance Director. This role involves assisting in the daily upkeep of program areas and overall camp facilities. Responsibilities include:


- Performing a variety of skilled and semi-skilled maintenance tasks, such as groundskeeping, plumbing, mechanical work, painting, masonry, and the safe operation of hand and power tools.

- Availability for mandatory training sessions.

Essential Job Functions
- Safely operate necessary equipment, including lawn mowers and leaf blowers.
- Assist in the inspection and preparation of buildings and facilities, making repairs as required.
- Help with the moving, loading, unloading, and transportation of furniture, equipment, tools, and supplies.
- Execute maintenance tasks according to the seasonal schedule.
- Install and rearrange furniture and related program supplies.
- Conduct inspections of systems, including fire alarms and smoke detectors.
- Ensure proper removal and disposal of trash, debris, and recyclables.
- Maintain equipment safety, inventory, and condition.

All duties must be performed in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations, as well as BCNY policies and procedures.

- Provide custodial services following cleaning protocols for program spaces, cabins, restrooms, kitchens, infirmaries, and residential cabins.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Ability to repetitively lift up to 50 lbs., with a range from floor level to above shoulder height.
- Free range of motion, including twisting, bending, stooping, and climbing on step ladders.
- Proficiency in using hand and power tools.

Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years old or a high school graduate or equivalent.
- First Aid and CPR Certification required or must be able to obtain certification upon employment.
- Ability to pass a background check and physical examination.

All staff must be current on required immunizations and provide proof of MMR vaccination as per NY State regulations.

Must submit proof of a health examination within the past year and an immunization record prior to the first day of work.
- Valid Driver's License required.

Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of maintenance-related experience.
- Preferred experience in carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, landscaping, and mechanical tasks.
- Valid Driver's License preferred.
- Knowledge of safety protocols, systems, and codes.
- At least 1 year of experience working with youth and camp settings preferred.
- A passion for working with children outdoors in various conditions.
- Bilingual skills in Spanish/English or Mandarin/English preferred.
