Job Title: Seasonal Fine Art Framer

Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Seasonal Fine Art Framer to join our team at Phillips Auctioneers. As a key member of our Specialist Departments, you will be responsible for leading fine art framing needs and ensuring the safe installation, storage, and transportation of artworks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Install and de-install artwork in galleries and storage areas
  • Store artwork safely in our warehouse
  • Load and unload trucks, moving crated and packed works throughout the galleries and warehouse
  • Pack and unpack artwork for shipment
  • Assist in preparing galleries for display and exhibition by spackling, light painting, and other tasks
  • Assist in framing and unframing two-dimensional artworks and mounting three-dimensional works of art
  • Assist in making assessments concerning the safety of works and taking necessary action to secure artworks
  • Assist photographers during shoots
  • May assist in the construction of new or retrofitting previously constructed crates
  • Dispose of materials and unused crates in the warehouse and galleries
  • Assist with special events, including acting as a viewing assistant

Requirements:

  • 3 years' experience in an auction house, internationally recognized gallery, or museum
  • Working knowledge of and experience with various packing methods suitable to a wide range of media
  • Working knowledge of and experience with installation methods suitable to a wide range of media
  • Audio/Visual skills (preferred)
  • Basic electrical skills, including wiring (preferred)
  • Finish carpentry skills (preferred)

Education and Training:

  • Art Education (required)
  • Bachelor of Arts (preferred)
  • Additional language skills (desirable)

Personal Attributes:

  • Ability to work professionally and responsibly with all other areas within the business
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Punctual and proactive with excellent organizational skills
  • High degree of time and resource management skills with the ability to work under pressure and prioritize to meet strict deadlines
  • Ability to deal effectively and efficiently with multiple tasks

Working Conditions:

  • Work is undertaken in our Long Island City warehouse and Park Avenue galleries
  • Requires local travel between locations to install artworks
  • Weekend and evening work as required

Additional Information:

  • The hourly pay range for the role is: $ per hour
