Job Title: Medical Physicist

CommonSpirit Health is seeking a highly skilled Medical Physicist to join our team at CHI Memorial Hospital. As a Medical Physicist, you will play a critical role in supporting the technical requirements of planning and treating radiation therapy patients in the department of radiation oncology.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the interviewing and selection process of physicists, dosimetrists, and therapists.
  • Evaluate and purchase equipment, implement service contracts, and coordinate service and maintenance with Bio-Med and vendors.
  • Measure machine outputs and calibrate to ensure compliance with standards of good practice and applicable state and federal regulations.
  • Assist in the radiation safety program for external beam therapy and brachytherapy, ensuring compliance with relevant state and federal guidelines and licensing requirements.
  • Receive, log, register, and assume responsibility for radioactive materials from receipt to disposal, following established protocols of the Nuclear Regulatory Committee.
  • Perform room surveys or additional measurements as needed, instructing nursing and other hospital employees on radiation precautions and self-protection settings, rules, and posting regulations for personnel and visitors.
  • Participate in medical conferences and attend meetings where patient and methods are discussed, and participate on committees as directed.
  • Assist with the development and evaluation of new devices, protocols, or design of equipment changes in treatment planning, research, treatment policies, etc.
  • Adhere to and support established department policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance, safety, environmental, and infection control, and assist in the implementation of quality assurance programs.
  • Adhere to Joint Commission and American College of Radiology standards of care.
Qualifications:
  • MS in Medical Physics or related field. Ph.D. in Medical Physics is preferred.
  • Board Certified by the American Board of Radiology (ABR) or the American Board of Medical Physics in Radiation Physics or the Canadian College of Physicists in Medicine.
  • Board eligible candidates as defined by the American Board of Radiology (ABR) must attain certification in therapeutic medical physics within three years from the date of hire as physicist.
