Job Summary

CommonSpirit Health is seeking a highly skilled Radiation Oncology Dosimetrist to join our team. As a key member of our radiation therapy department, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and effective treatment of patients undergoing radiation therapy.

Key Responsibilities
  • Treatment Planning
    • Collaborate with Radiation Oncologists to determine treatment objectives, including critical organs and dose limitations.
    • Supervise and electronically assess simulations to ensure all necessary data is obtained for treatment planning.
    • Ensure patients are set up in a reproducible position for treatment planning during CT or conventional simulations.
    • Supervise and electronically assess measurements, contours, and other data needed for treatment planning.
    • Provide accurate treatment plans to Radiation Oncologists in a timely manner, presenting treatment options for selection.
    • Calculate treatment dosages independently of Treatment Planning Systems.
  • Implementation of Treatment Plans
    • Supervise the construction of customized treatment devices.
    • Enter prescriptions and treatment parameters into verification and record systems accurately and timely.
    • Ensure treatment therapists are provided with clear, detailed instructions for each patient's treatment.
    • Explain treatments verbally or electronically to therapists and answer questions about variations in treatment protocols.
    • Supervise initial patient treatments and major modifications of treatment fields.
    • Ensure proper and permanent documentation of all treatment changes.
  • Quality Assurance
    • Perform weekly evaluations of patient charts for calculation errors or other problems, and correct deficiencies as needed.
    • Inform medical physicists of major systematic errors and assist in implementing corrective actions.
    • Check verification and record systems for accuracy of entries.
    • Assist medical physicists in quality assurance testing and special dosimetry projects.
  • Other Duties
    • Assist Radiation Oncologists and medical physicists in procedures involving intracavitary and interstitial sealed sources.
    • Assist in teaching staff therapists and students applied aspects of dosimetry.
    • Stay current on new treatment planning techniques, devices, and methods.
    • Maintain close communication with medical physicists, identifying areas of uncertainty or concern, major or systemic errors.
