Job Description

Performance Contracting is seeking highly motivated and detail-oriented college students to join our summer internship program. As an intern, you will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the specialty construction industry and develop a solid foundation in construction management.

Throughout the summer program, you will be paired with a dedicated mentor who will guide you through the Performance Contracting Intern Activities Checklist. This checklist serves as a structured framework, offering you exposure to various disciplines within the branch's business. As you complete tasks, you will be expected to submit Weekly Project Recaps, providing detailed descriptions of your activities, the individuals you collaborated with, and the key takeaways from each task.

Some examples of tasks you may be responsible for include:

  • Developing detailed proposals
  • Preparing bid analysis and reviews
  • Understanding and demonstrating project scheduling
  • Attending pre-bid walk-throughs
  • Learning the management process of project labor control, material handling, and job-cost analysis
  • Learning how to effectively manage subcontractors, materials, and equipment
  • Working directly with owners, construction managers, architects, engineers, and contractors
  • Assisting in the preparation of quantity take-offs
  • Maintaining accurate and timely project documentation and correspondence
  • Understanding the preparation of a financial job cost analysis
  • Learning the administration of the corporate safety program to ensure job site safety
  • Understanding specialized equipment utilization
  • Tracking and costing material handling

As an intern, you will receive a competitive hourly wage, relocation reimbursement, and corporate housing options. Upon completion of the internship, you will receive an evaluation that will be considered for future employment opportunities with the company.

Requirements:

  • Currently enrolled as an undergraduate student seeking a Construction Management, Construction Engineering, or comparable degree
  • Reliable source of transportation
  • Willingness to relocate for the assignment
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word
  • Clear understanding of how to read and understand specifications and drawings
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Ability to learn new job skills by engaging in the technical aspects of the job and applying new skills as they are taught
  • Customer service skills
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to multitask

Preferred Requirements:

  • Demonstrated baseline construction knowledge acquired through relevant work experience or completion of a second-year construction management/engineering curriculum
  • Basic knowledge of BlueBeam, AutoCAD, and/or OnScreen Takeoff
