Certified Surgical Technician

The Certified Surgical Technician plays a crucial role in the surgical team by performing a range of technical tasks to support the preparation and care of patients prior to surgical procedures. This position involves ensuring the surgical environment is sterile and organized, while also providing compassionate care to patients during their pre-operative phase.
Key Responsibilities:
- Adhere to the established competencies within the organization, demonstrating leadership qualities in various capacities.
- Assist in the delivery of direct patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse, ensuring all necessary processes are followed before and during surgical interventions.
- Exhibit proficiency in scrubbing for multiple surgical specialties, including but not limited to: Transplants, Open Heart, Urology, and Robotics.
- Maintain a sterile field by passing instruments and sutures to the surgeon, while assisting as needed throughout the procedure.
- Utilize the physician's preference card as a guideline for preparing surgical cases and ensure that these cards are regularly updated.
- Collaborate effectively with the surgical team to provide optimal patient care and support.
- Implement safety protocols to maintain a secure environment, consistently applying aseptic techniques.
- Demonstrate expertise in the management and care of surgical instruments and supplies.
- Follow Universal Barrier Precautions to ensure safety for both patients and staff during all interactions.
- Monitor and regulate the surgical environment, ensuring compliance with established sanitation policies and procedures.
- Adapt patient care methods to meet the diverse needs of the patient population served.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support the surgical team and patient care objectives.
Qualifications:
Education and Skills:
- A High School Diploma or equivalent is mandatory.
- Completion of an accredited Surgical Technology program is essential.
Experience:
- A minimum of two years of relevant experience is preferred.
Certifications:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
- Certification as a Surgical Technologist from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting must be obtained within 180 days of graduation, or a valid LVN/LPN license is required.
Work Schedule:
This position typically involves a 12-hour shift from 6 PM to 6 AM.
Employment Type:
This role is classified as Per Diem, based on operational needs.
