Job Title:

Classroom Support Specialist

About the Role:

Knoxville-Knox County Head Start/Early Head Start seeks an experienced Classroom Support Specialist to provide hands-on support to children with challenging behaviors.

Responsibilities:
  • Work collaboratively with the Program Manager for Education and Special Services to develop and implement individualized support plans for children with behavioral needs.
  • Facilitate team-based intervention planning to promote positive behavior and academic success.
  • Collect, review, and interpret data to inform decision-making and drive program improvements.
  • Provide coaching and guidance to teaching staff on strategies to support children with challenging behaviors.
  • Conduct classroom observations and assessments to identify areas of need and develop targeted interventions.
  • Collaborate with disability and mental health coordinators to ensure seamless support for children and families.
  • Maintain positive relationships with families through regular communication, resource provision, and guidance.
  • Stay current on best practices in early childhood education and apply knowledge to drive program innovation.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or related field.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience teaching children aged 8 weeks to 5 years in a classroom setting.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of early childhood development and effective practices in early education.
  • Experience supporting children with challenging behaviors.
  • Prior Head Start experience preferred.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in early childhood education.
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check.
