Position Overview: The City of Aiken is seeking a dedicated Communications Specialist to enhance our Parks, Recreation, & Tourism Department. This role is pivotal in crafting, organizing, and disseminating information through various channels including digital platforms, print media, and other communication methods.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Social Media Management: Oversee and synchronize messaging across social media platforms to effectively inform and engage the community.
  • Content Creation: Develop and manage all digital content for the City of Aiken Recreation Department, including regular postings, audience engagement, and monthly performance reports.
  • Publication Coordination: Design, edit, and distribute promotional materials such as brochures, flyers, and posters to support Parks and Recreation initiatives.
  • Graphic Design: Lead the development and maintenance of graphic design projects and web content to ensure a professional and cohesive representation of the City.
  • Effectiveness Evaluation: Analyze communication tools and strategies, providing insights and recommendations for improvement based on data analytics.
  • Campaign Development: Create and refine comprehensive marketing campaigns and social media content to promote various programs and events.
  • Event Support: Assist in the planning and execution of community events, ceremonies, and recreational activities.
  • Community Engagement: Build and maintain relationships with community members, city divisions, and local organizations to foster collaboration.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure adherence to departmental policies and procedures.
  • Professional Development: Participate in workshops and seminars to enhance marketing strategies and skills.

Qualifications:

Preferred candidates will possess an associate degree in marketing, journalism, graphic design, or a related field, along with two years of relevant experience. Alternatively, candidates with three to five years of experience in a related area, combined with appropriate education, will also be considered. A strong foundation in marketing or media development is preferred.

Skills Required:

  • Exceptional analytical abilities for planning and evaluating public programs.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for effective communication with staff and the public.
  • Proficiency in graphic design software, including Canva and Adobe, as well as social media management.
  • Outstanding writing skills and attention to detail.

Physical Requirements: This role requires a limited amount of physical effort, including walking, standing, and lifting light objects (approximately 5-10% of work time). Candidates should be capable of exerting 10-20 pounds of force to move objects as necessary.
