Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Maintenance Crew Supervisor to join our team at the Commonwealth of Virginia. As a key member of our maintenance operations team, you will be responsible for leading and directing a crew of skilled workers in performing a variety of tasks related to the maintenance and repair of Virginia's roadways.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and direct a crew of skilled workers in performing maintenance and repair tasks on roadways, including equipment operation, manual labor, and preventive maintenance.
  • Ensure that all work is performed in a safe and efficient manner, in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Develop and implement plans for maintenance and repair activities, including scheduling and resource allocation.
  • Monitor and control costs associated with maintenance and repair activities.
  • Collaborate with other departments and stakeholders to ensure that maintenance and repair activities are aligned with overall organizational goals and objectives.
  • Provide training and guidance to crew members to ensure that they have the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their duties effectively.
  • Conduct regular inspections of roadways and maintenance equipment to identify areas for improvement and ensure that all equipment is in good working order.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field, such as construction management, engineering, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in a maintenance or construction-related field, with a minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience.
  • Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and DOT medical card required.
  • Ability to interpret and apply work zone safety and traffic control manuals.
  • Ability to lead, direct, and oversee the work of others.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with inventory procedures and management.
  • Knowledge of highway maintenance and construction practices and procedures.
  • Experience with computer-aided design (CAD) software and other construction-related software.
  • Ability to obtain CPR with AED, Standard First Aid, and Blood Borne Pathogens (BBP) Combined Course certification.
  • Experience with emergency operations, including snow-removal, storm damage, and accident clean-up.
