Overview:
The role of the Hyperbaric Safety Specialist encompasses the administration of hyperbaric therapy and diagnostic assessments for patients, while also serving as the designated Safety Director for the facility.
Key Responsibilities:
Hyperbaric Technician Duties:
- Conducts various tests and treatments, including transcutaneous oxygen monitoring and blood glucose assessments, in accordance with established protocols.
- Provides education to patients and their families regarding the advantages, risks, contraindications, and safety considerations associated with hyperbaric oxygen therapy.
- Assesses patient outcomes and collaborates with management and hyperbaric physicians to modify treatment plans as needed.
- Offers support in Wound Care, adhering strictly to the clinical licensing scope.
Safety Director Responsibilities:
- Ensures adherence to safety regulations and standards, including NFPA 99 and facility-specific safety protocols.
- Analyzes safety incidents within the department, gathers data on equipment and patient safety, and conducts training sessions focused on accident prevention.
- Collaborates with medical and administrative leadership to oversee hyperbaric chamber upgrades and repairs, ensuring compliance with safety standards.
- Evaluates equipment and supplies for safety compliance prior to their use in the hyperbaric environment.
- Maintains a secure atmosphere within the hyperbaric facility for both patients and staff, employing recognized decompression protocols.
- Acts as a technical trainer for staff, providing in-service education on hyperbaric physiology, safety, and operational protocols.
- Implements and supervises safety drills tailored to enhance staff readiness for emergency situations.
- Conducts annual reviews of safety-related incidents to identify trends and areas for improvement.
- Assists in the documentation and review of safety-related events, promoting a culture of learning and improvement.
- Works closely with medical leadership to determine staff qualifications and training needs based on operational requirements.
- Ensures that all safety equipment is properly maintained and compliant with safety standards.
- Oversees the labeling of gas outlets in accordance with industry standards.
- Conducts inspections and tests of electrical and life support systems as part of routine maintenance.
- Has the authority to remove hazardous items from the hyperbaric chamber.
