Job Description

Job Overview:

The Copper Wire Specialist is a medium skill role responsible for coordinating, setting up, and operating the drawing machine to produce various sizes of copper wire from feeder stock.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Set up and operate the multiwire drawing machine to produce high-quality copper wire.
  • Load and unload sets of bobbins/reels, ensuring correct inventory and proper die set-ups.
  • Make high-quality hot-welds and kold-welds in feeder stock to maintain continuous machine operation.
  • Maintain a layer wound package and ensure correct wire sizes and lengths on proper take-up packages.
  • Monitor and adjust machine controls to produce quality wire at specified production speeds.
  • Check concentration of drawing solution and diagnose problems with feeder stock.
  • Coordinate material handling with lift drivers to ensure a continuous production process.
  • Measure elongation of each wire on each take-up package to ensure proper annealing.
  • Use non-deformed take-up and pay-off packages and string up dies for wire-size changeovers and breakouts.
  • Examine wire to detect potential causes of breakouts and make all gear changes, traverse adjustments, and annealer settings.
  • Weigh each take-up package prior to recording production and maintain ongoing communication with supervisors and peers.
  • Put scrap into designated scrap bins.

Cross-Training:

The Copper Wire Specialist will be required to cross-train on equipment within their identified workgroup at the facility.

Quality and Safety:

The Copper Wire Specialist will use the company's ISO Quality System documentation to guide daily quality activities and perform quality checks as outlined in process procedures for the machine.

The Copper Wire Specialist will be responsible for observing Southwire safety rules and maintaining good housekeeping, following all safety procedures and rules.
