Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform a comprehensive array of abdominal, OB/GYN, vascular, and small parts procedures, demonstrating expertise in anatomy and imaging techniques.
  • Accurately recognize and document critical findings, such as deep vein thrombosis, ectopic pregnancy, aortic aneurysms, or dissection, utilizing established criteria for physician interpretation.
  • Operate and maintain imaging equipment, reporting any issues to the Department Coordinator in a timely manner.
  • Assist physicians during procedures, adhering to sterile technique and infection control standards.
  • Provide preliminary results, following department protocols, and communicate with physicians, nursing units, and the Emergency Department as needed.

Documentation and Quality Assurance:

  • Document patient history and images for analysis and interpretation, reviewing charts for medical information and explaining test procedures to patients.
  • Participate in the department QA program, attending meetings and in-services to ensure technical competence, and assist in database input and accreditation projects.

Professional Development and Safety:

  • Stay up-to-date with the latest ultrasound developments, attending continuing education seminars and maintaining professional accreditation, including registration with ARDMS and ACR accreditation.
  • Ensure a secure and safe patient and work environment, adhering to OSHA standards for infection control and maintaining a clean and organized workspace.

Licensure and Certification:

  • Medical Sonographer (RDMS) registration with Abdomen issued by the American Registry of Diagnostic Med Sonography (ARDMS) is required within 3 months, unless department leader has determined it is not required.
  • Vascular Technologist (RVT) registration issued by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) is required within 3 months, unless department leader has determined it is not required.
