SECOND SHIFT HOURS of OPERATION: Mon - Thur (4pm - 2:30am)
Position Summary: The ideal candidate for a manufacturing operations manager role over welders possesses a blend of technical welding knowledge, leadership abilities, and managerial skills. This combination enables them to effectively guide their team, maintain quality standards, and drive production success.
Key Responsibilities:- Manage and Lead the Team: Manage, lead, engage, hold accountable and develop department employees to ensure job satisfaction and growth.
- Develop and Manage Direct Reports: Develop and manage direct reports including quarterly one-on-one meetings to coach, correct and recognize behaviors.
- Conduct Performance Reviews: Conduct quarterly/annual performance reviews with staff.
- Oversee Performance Issues: Directly oversee all performance issues and progressive discipline practices.
- Manage Personal Performance: Manage personal performance by setting and communicating clear goals and expectations.
- Communicate Company Goals: Communicate the company's goals and objectives to the staff and identify key metrics to ensure that their team is driving to the company's goals and objectives.
- Cultivate Company Values: Cultivate and foster the company's core values.
- Establish a Strengths-Based Culture: Establish a strengths-based culture for assessing, applying, and development of employees.
- Reward and Recognize Employees: Reward or recognize employees as appropriate based on performance.
- Drive Budget Performance: Drive budget performance, profitability and cost reduction efforts to ensure the department stays on track to meet the financial plan year over year.
- Coordinate Team Work Assignments: Proactively coordinate team and individual work assignments to achieve daily goals and objectives to ensure schedule adherence and to optimize the overall efficiency and utilization of the shop.
- Ensure Work Outcomes: Ensure that individual work outcomes are complete and accurate and meet standards set by Graham.
- Develop and Standardize Processes: Develop and standardize processes that will enable employees to perform processes consistently.
- Encourage Problem-Solving: Encourage employees to identify problems or improvement ideas for department processes.
- Provide Technical Oversight: Provide technical oversight and direction as required, to assist in troubleshooting or root cause analysis on difficult problems.
- Manage Cycle Time and Capacity: Manage cycle time and capacity throughout the department to ensure on time delivery.
- Monitor SQDC Metrics: Monitor Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost (SQDC) to ensure that the Manufacturing Department is meeting its metrics and deliverables to ensure company strategy is met.
- Identify Opportunities for Improvement: Identify opportunities and improve processes to drive customer deliverables and to obtain required results.
- Monitor Production Preparation: Monitor the production preparation process to ensure accuracy and completion.
- Monitor Production Results: Monitor production results to ensure quality parts are moved to assembly.
- Overcome Manufacturing Constraints: Proactively identify and overcome manufacturing constraints with equipment, processes, and staffing by developing alternative options, adjusting plans accordingly, and realigning.
- Monitor Reactive Maintenance: Monitor reactive maintenance to determine root cause and corrective actions and incorporate the actions into the maintenance plans.
- Collaborate with Departments: Collaborate with all departments to ensure that information and data transfers effectively to meet customer needs and organizational objectives.
- Communicate Manufacturing Priorities: Obtain teams daily work status and issues to report to appropriate team.
- Communicate with Engineering: Communicate manufacturing priorities from meetings to team to ensure daily plan is executed.
- Collaborate with Quality: Collaborate with Quality to resolve product or process nonconformance's.
- Collaborate with Human Resources: Collaborate and partner with Human Resources to assess individual compensation and ensure that all employees are paid according to their performance.
- Ensure Safety and Quality: Ensure safety of the employees and quality of the products throughout all processes.
- Ensure Manufacturing Procedures: Ensure that manufacturing personnel can locate Quality Management System procedure, have read and understand relevant procedure and are aware of all procedure changes when they occur.
- Provide Resources for Root Cause Analysis: Provide resources to perform root cause analysis for corrective and preventive actions identified in the department.
- Manage Compliance to Safety Procedures: Manage compliance to all safety procedure and ensure proper protective equipment usage to ensure personnel safety.
- Drive Safety and Accident Prevention: Drive safety and accident prevention into the culture.
- Perform Injury Reviews and Analysis: Perform injury reviews and analysis.
- Develop Continual Improvement Plan: Develop and manage the continual improvement plan/roadmap for the department to drive increased performance year over year.
- Provide Improvement Tools and Training: Provide improvement tools, techniques and training needed to implement and sustain continual improvement efforts.
- Drive Continual Improvement Culture: Drive a continual improvement culture in the department and drive 5S and Safety initiatives.
To qualify for this position, an individual must possess the knowledge, training, experience and abilities required.
- Education and Training: GED along with a technical background in Welding/Fabrication
- Experience: Five years of experience in a Welding Fabrication shop environment or similar
- Supervisor Responsibilities: Three years of supervisor responsibilities
- Welding Experience: Must have experience with welding of various metals.
- Conventional Machining Processes: Requires knowledge of conventional machining processes and grinding.
- Reading and Understanding Drawings: Ability to read and understand drawings and prints
- Other: Must be willing to work overtime as required
- Desired Job Qualification: Lean Six Sigma Certified

- Work Environment: While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent is exposed to high level of manufacturing and equipment noise. Duties are performed indoors in a manufacturing environment with temperature changes. Exposure to hazardous materials, fumes or airborne particles and moving mechanical parts with vibration.
