We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Engineer 3 to join our Advanced Propulsion team at HII's Newport News Shipbuilding division. As a key member of our team, you will provide technical leadership and expertise in the development of the next generation fast attack submarine, SSN(X). This is an exciting opportunity to get in at the beginning of a new design and have a significant impact on the development of the Navy's premier attack submarine platform.
Key Responsibilities- Provide technical leadership to the engineering team supporting the development of the main propulsion unit, including reduction gear design.
- Develop and implement component development processes, including concept design, specification and requirements development, evaluating and selecting suppliers, component production, test and validation, and all technical problem resolutions.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the successful integration of mechanical and electrical systems.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, including design specifications, test procedures, and technical reports.
- Provide technical guidance and support to junior engineers and technicians.
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited program.
- 5 years of relevant exempt experience, or Master's Degree and 3 years of relevant professional experience, or Ph.D. and 0 years of experience.
- Strong understanding of gear design and system integration.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple tasks and projects.
- Technical understanding of turbine-powered main reduction gears (or sub-components) and knowledge of auxiliary support systems encompassing design, manufacture, and test.
- Proficient in technical writing and communication.
- Systems engineering or engineering project management background.
