Position: Senior Upholstery Specialist at Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation

Key Qualifications:

- High School Diploma or GED is mandatory.
- A minimum of 4 years of upholstery experience, including at least two (2) years in aircraft upholstery or 6 years in commercial upholstery.
- In-depth knowledge of upholstery techniques, sewing methods, and products, as well as advanced carpet installation skills.

Role Overview:

The Senior Upholstery Specialist is responsible for independently designing, fabricating, and installing upholstery and trim components within aircraft interiors. This role includes supporting the Shop Lead by supervising projects and offering guidance to fellow technicians. Additionally, the specialist will mentor and train junior Upholstery Technicians.

Primary Responsibilities:

  1. Fabricate and install seat covers, curtains, and various assemblies and subassemblies.
  2. Interpret material specifications and engineering drawings to ensure the final product aligns with design and engineering standards.
  3. Sew, fabricate, and install covers for all types of panels in the aircraft interior while adhering to safety, quality, and productivity benchmarks.
  4. Utilize the material tracking system to manage parts demand, track issues, and confirm work completion.
  5. Collaborate with design specifications to cut and install custom carpets featuring unique patterns.

Additional Responsibilities:

  1. Assume Lead responsibilities as necessary, overseeing projects and coordinating with the Lead to assign tasks to technicians.
  2. Conduct safety audits and assist team members in performing safety assessments.
  3. Help maintain shop equipment and associated Job Safety Analyses (JSAs).
  4. Adhere to and promote safety, 5S, and housekeeping protocols, ensuring the protection of aircraft interiors.
  5. Guide and train less experienced technicians, monitoring their work to ensure compliance with safety, quality, and productivity standards.
  6. Collaborate with Leads and senior technicians to identify and implement process improvements aimed at reducing material costs, cycle times, and labor hours using Lean Six Sigma methodologies.

Other Requirements:

  1. Familiarity with Gulfstream inspection and process specifications and terminology.
  2. Proficient in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding the English language.
  3. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering documentation.
  4. Computer literacy is essential.
  5. Physical capability to climb ladders and stairs, work in confined spaces, lift up to 40 pounds, and adapt to various shifts.
