Job Summary

The Hospital Paramedic plays a vital role in the Prisma Health Ambulance Service, working under the direction of the on-duty charge nurse and attending Physician. This position requires a high level of clinical expertise, as the Paramedic will assess and treat patients according to clinical operating guidelines.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collects data and completes patient orders utilizing appropriate area and/or age-specific standards/policies and tools.
  • Assesses and recognizes subtle or actual changes in patients' status and patient response to intervention.
  • Identifies patient priorities for patient plan of care and validates these priorities with the healthcare team members and documents appropriately.
  • Performs specific tasks based on organizational, departmental, and/or unit policies and procedures within the Paramedic scope of practice.
  • Assumes responsibility for patient safety by maintaining a safe environment to include awareness of safety procedures, protocols, and adherence to patient care standards.
  • Provides care based on patient and unit priorities, coordinating and organizing tasks as appropriate, utilizing known resources internal and external to the unit.
  • Utilizes appropriate technology in daily practice (EHR, Pyxis, Telemetry, Emergency equipment).
  • Identifies/assesses patient/family learning needs.
  • Participate in continuous quality improvement (CQI) initiatives.
  • Attend meetings and in-services as required by departmental policy.
Requirements
  • Education - Certification Program.
  • Current certification as a Paramedic per state requirements.
  • 1 year experience as a field paramedic with an EMS agency and/or clinical experience in a hospital.
  • Required Certifications, Registrations, Licenses: Paramedic, State and National Registry Certified, BLS, ACLS, and PALS.
  • Knowledge, Skills or Abilities: Must possess knowledge and skills for State Medical Board Approved Medications for Credentialed Paramedics and State Medical Board Approved Skills for Credentialed Paramedics.
