Job Summary

The Air Reserve Technician (ART) Officer - Flight Instructor/Evaluator is a critical role within the Headquarters, Air Force Reserve Command, responsible for managing the overall mishap prevention program for the commander. This position requires a highly skilled and experienced individual to direct, monitor, and coordinate all unit safety program activities and function as a flight instructor/evaluator on unit assigned aircraft.

Key Responsibilities
  • Establishes policies and procedures for accomplishment of the flying mission, coordinating plans and schedules with other organization managers and customers as appropriate.
  • Instructs or examines pilots in flying proficiency, plans flights and training missions, evaluates pilots, plans course outlines, critiques pilots, and plans, organizes, and directs the activities of the organization.
  • Directs all operations and maintenance training programs for the Squadron, reviewing organization mission, functions, and manning, and responsible for the operational policies and procedures of the organization.
  • Manages the Squadron's flying hour program to ensure equitable distribution among the assigned aircrews, prepares the annual budget estimate, and manages the current budget to ensure that funds are properly allocated and utilized.
Requirements
  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Must be a current member of the AF Reserves or willing/qualified to join.
  • A security clearance may be required.
  • If authorized, PCS will be paid IAW JTR and AF Regulations. If receiving an authorized PCS, you may be subject to completing/signing a CONUS agreement.
  • Total salary varies depending on location of position.
  • This position is subject to provision of the DoD Priority Placement Program.
  • Must sign a mobility agreement.
  • Position may be subject to random drug testing.
  • Employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours, to include evenings, weekends and/or holidays.
  • Shift work and emergency overtime may be required.
  • Employee must maintain current certifications.

Qualifications
  • In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the supplemental Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for Air Reserve Technicians (ART) flying positions, dated 2017.
  • EXPERIENCE: No specific length of experience required. The qualifications of Airplane/Helicopter Flight Instructors in an Air Force active duty and Reserve force are directly related to the completion of prerequisite training and number of flying hours rather than years of experience.
  • MINIMUM FLYING HOURS: Must have a minimum of 1000 hours total military flight time (i.e., accumulation of primary, secondary, instructor, evaluator, simulator and student time) in Mission Design Series (MDS), hold or qualify for a USAF pilot rating; hold a valid aviation service aeronautical order and have flown military aircraft within the past eight years.
  • Certificate of completion Undergraduate Pilot Training (UPT), Individual Data Summary (from the Aviation Resource Management System ARMS), OR any official document that shows date received aviation service aeronautical order.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
  • Knowledge, skill, ability, and experience as a rated pilot on flying status in the Unit Mission Aircraft.
  • Knowledge of and ability to formulate plans and courses pertaining to flying operations and unit flying training activities.
  • Knowledge of established safety principles, practices, procedures, laws, regulations, related to overall military safety programs.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to independently plan and organize work, and meet deadlines.
Additional Information
  • The incumbent must be a rated instructor/evaluator aircrew member (pilot) on flying status in unit to which attached. Periodically, as prescribed by regulations, must take and pass standardization/evaluation flight examinations which consist of both written tests and actual flight performance to demonstrate flight knowledge and abilities required by the position.
  • This position is that of a management official. In this capacity, the incumbent is required to formulate, determine or influence policies of the unit to which assigned.
  • The incumbent may be required to fly in military and/or commercial aircraft to perform temporary duty (TDY) assignments.
  • As necessary to meet special and/or essential unscheduled flying missions, may be required to work an uncommon tour of duty, with brief advance notice.
  • This position is designated as a mobility position. The incumbent must be willing to move/transfer to another unit/location on a lateral or promotion basis as directed by HQ AFRC.
  • This is a testing designated position (TDP). The employee is subject to random drug testing.
  • This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a TOP SECRET security clearance.
