Overview:
This role is integral to the engineering team at the Huntsville facility, focusing on materials engineering. The Senior Materials Project Engineer is responsible for enhancing material processes and equipment to ensure our manufacturing operations remain efficient and competitive in the industry.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the optimization of material formulations and components, prioritizing safety, quality, cost, and delivery enhancements.
- Oversee the formulation and raw material change process, ensuring thorough evaluation, approval, and implementation.
- Continuously maintain and refine material formulations and operational procedures to surpass departmental objectives related to safety, quality, and production.
- Collaborate with manufacturing and engineering teams to establish and execute improvement plans focused on material performance and waste reduction.
- Provide expert technical support to production teams, particularly in troubleshooting material-related issues.
- Manage engineering support for new product introductions and process enhancements.
- Initiate and lead continuous improvement projects aligned with plant manufacturing goals.
- Conduct feasibility assessments to validate that proposed improvements meet safety, quality, and financial criteria.
- Participate in cost reduction initiatives through methodologies such as Kaizen events and Six Sigma projects.
- Educate and promote best practices in material handling and engineering processes.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline from an ABET accredited program, preferably in Chemical, Materials, or Materials Science Engineering.
- A minimum of four years of relevant professional experience.
- Demonstrated success in leading significant technical projects.
- Experience with SMC and compression molding is advantageous.
