At Burlington Convalescent, the Restorative Care Assistant (RCA) collaborates closely with the Therapy Department and operates under the guidance of the Charge Nurse to implement restorative nursing techniques aimed at helping residents achieve their highest potential for mobility.

The RCA plays a crucial role in ensuring a clean, safe, dignified, and nurturing environment for residents by fulfilling the responsibilities outlined below.

Restorative Care Assistant (RCA) Qualifications
- Minimum of one year experience as a CNA in a skilled nursing facility and a valid RNA certification
- Fully vaccinated against COVID-19, including booster shots
- Current First Aid and CPR certification
- Valid Fire Safety Card
Primary Responsibilities of the Restorative Care Assistant:

Nursing Duties:
- Assists residents with range of motion exercises (both passive and active), general strengthening activities, and ambulation/transfer exercises as prescribed by physicians to enhance or maintain mobility and independence
- Records activities of daily living for assigned residents in accordance with facility policies
- Monitors the placement of restorative devices and equipment to ensure correct usage
- Aids in turning and positioning residents requiring heavy care
- Provides daily and weekly documentation for each resident in the restorative program, including weekly progress summaries
- Reports and documents significant changes in residents' conditions or motivational levels
- Inquires and monitors residents for pain before and after administering treatments
- Delivers routine restorative nursing care and services in line with residents' assessments and care plans as directed by supervisors
- Participates in and documents outcomes of residents' activities of daily living programs such as dressing, feeding, and personal hygiene; maintains restorative therapy notes in residents' records
- Following the restorative treatment plan developed by a nurse, the RCA assists residents in performing essential daily activities such as bathing, dressing, eating, and walking
- Guides and supports CNAs in areas such as positioning, range of motion exercises, ambulation, and safety device application, while documenting residents' progress and assisting in the development of quality improvement tools for CNAs to utilize in performing audits of Restorative CNA care
- Employs proper techniques, procedures, and safety measures to meet the individual needs of residents
- Encourages restorative practices and self-care skills
- Maintains proper body alignment and positioning for all residents
- Assists residents with transfers and ambulation using appropriate equipment and techniques, including gait belts and buddy systems
- Supports residents in participating in restorative feeding programs to enhance eye-hand coordination
- Serves meals and nourishment while assisting residents with adaptive equipment as needed, promoting independence in eating
- Completes daily meal logs for residents as assigned
- Assists residents with oral food intake, including pouring beverages and opening containers
