Position Summary
The Federal Tax Specialist will play a crucial role in supporting Tax Managers and the wider tax team in various aspects of U.S. Federal and multi-state income tax compliance, as well as franchise tax return preparation.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the collection of data and preparation of tax returns, focusing on fixed assets, apportionment, and the calculation of book/tax differences.
- Prepare estimated tax calculations, perform account reconciliations, and manage accrual to return adjustments.
- Conduct thorough tax research and support planning initiatives related to Federal, State, and Local income and franchise taxes.
- Prepare quarterly and annual ASC 740 income tax provisions, including deferred tax analysis and FIN 48 analysis, ensuring compliance with SOX and related account reconciliations.
- Support the tax audit process by preparing audit-ready tax workpapers and providing necessary assistance.
- Maintain effective internal controls over tax accounts and all aspects of the tax function.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements within the tax department to enhance efficiency and mitigate risks.
- Manage time effectively to meet deadlines and provide timely updates to supervisors regarding project status.
- Demonstrate initiative by seeking opportunities to enhance the quality of tax department outputs and services, while fostering positive relationships across the organization.
Qualifications
We are looking for candidates with a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and a solid understanding of U.S. tax principles and ASC 740, including FIN 48. Proficiency in OneSource tax software, Checkpoint, Microsoft Office, and Hyperion Financial Management is essential.
Successful candidates will possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent communication abilities, and a detail-oriented approach with strong organizational capabilities. The ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple projects in a time-sensitive environment is crucial.
Preferred Qualifications
A Master’s degree in Taxation, 2-3 years of relevant experience, and CPA certification are highly desirable. Experience with analytical and visualization tools such as Alteryx and Power BI will be an advantage.
