About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Veterinarian - Shelter Medicine Specialist to join our team at the Humane Society for Southwest Washington. As a key member of our veterinary team, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality medical care to animals in our shelter and promoting the health and well-being of our community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide Quality Veterinary Care: Perform routine medical exams, diagnose and treat illnesses and injuries, and provide preventative care to animals in our shelter.
  • Develop and Implement Treatment Plans: Collaborate with our veterinary team to develop and implement treatment plans for animals in our care, including those requiring surgery or other specialized medical care.
  • Work with Shelter Operations Team: Collaborate with our shelter operations team to ensure the health and well-being of animals in our care, including those requiring special medical attention.
  • Provide Education and Training: Educate and train shelter staff and volunteers on animal behavior, health, and welfare, as well as provide guidance on animal handling and care.
  • Participate in Quality Improvement Initiatives: Participate in quality improvement initiatives to ensure that our shelter is providing the highest level of care to animals in our community.
Requirements
  • Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine: Must have a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from an accredited university or equivalent.
  • Washington State Veterinary License: Must be licensed to practice veterinary medicine in the state of Washington or be able to obtain licensure within 3 months of hire.
  • Experience in Shelter Medicine: Must have a minimum of 1 year of experience in shelter medicine or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with High-Volume Spay/Neuter Surgery: Experience with high-volume spay/neuter surgery and other soft tissue surgical procedures.
  • Passion for Animal Welfare: A passion for animal welfare and a commitment to promoting the health and well-being of animals in our community.

  • Competitive Salary: A competitive salary range of $87,000-$98,000 FTE, depending on experience.
