Key Responsibilities- Assist physicians and management with clinical, clerical, and organizational tasks related to patient care.
- Manage patient charts and resolve patient requests, including test results, prescription refills, and general healthcare inquiries.
- Monitor schedules and organize patient flow for physician office visits or in-office procedures.
- Accompany patients to exam rooms, triage, collect patient history, and provide physical assessments as delegated by physicians.
- Schedule and obtain results for testing, procedures, and other services as ordered by physicians; interpret and accurately communicate results to physicians and patients as necessary.
- Perform or assist physicians with in-office ancillary services, procedures, and specialty services.
- Manage patient charts to ensure clinical information is complete, including scanning forms into the EMR in a timely manner.
- Prepare charts in the EMR prior to the physician visit according to practice process.
- Have knowledge of drug uses and dosage requirements; ensure sample medications are up to date.
- Enter requests for prescription refills into the EMR.
- Perform upkeep for exam rooms with regards to sterilization and infection control, supplies, and equipment.
- Accurately provide or counsel patients and/or relatives with pertinent information regarding medical treatment or procedures.
- Abide by and promote HIPAA compliance; maintain strictest confidentiality with regards to patient information.
- Participate in staff meetings as directed by the Practice Manager.
- Cross-train and perform other office functions, including phone triage, check-in/check-out, scheduling, pre-certification, or other duties as directed by the Practice Manager.
- Current Certified or Registered Medical Assistant, or equivalent experience required.
- CPR certification preferred.
- 2-3 years of specialty clinical experience, gastroenterology experience preferred.
- Computer literacy and ability to operate various healthcare systems and multiple Microsoft Office applications.
- Provide a high level of customer service at all times.
- The ability to deal with patients, visitors, co-workers, and physicians with courtesy and respect.
- Displays a professional, outgoing, warm, and helpful attitude.
- Possesses compassion for dealing with people who are ill and need help.
- Plan, prioritize, and complete multiple tasks as delegated.
- Work under pressure; assess, respond to, and communicate issues in a timely manner.
- Communicate clearly with patients and coworkers through the telephone, email, EMR messaging, and in-person.
- Interpret and apply clinical and non-clinical policies and procedures.
- Be reliable, punctual, and able to work independently.
