Key Responsibilities
  • Patient Care
    • Deliver high-quality patient care by incorporating the principles of Relationship Centered Care and the nursing process.
    • Assess and evaluate patient care needs, applying critical thinking skills to manage patient care effectively.
    • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary healthcare team to develop, implement, and evaluate patient care plans.
    • Prioritize patient care activities, including teaching, rounding, coaching, and planning after hospital care, and delegate tasks as necessary.
    • Communicate effectively and professionally with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
  • Patient Experience
    • Role model the principles of Mount Sinai Relationship Centered Care, facilitating actions such as Admission Welcome, Bedside Shift Report, and Purposeful Hourly Rounding.
    • Consider patients' values, preferences, cultural diversity, expressed needs, and knowledge in all aspects of care.
    • Establish and maintain a therapeutic relationship with patients and families.
    • Use evidence-based practices to increase understanding of patients' perceptions of care.
    • Initiate service recovery for patients and families who have concerns and escalate to Clinical Nurse Manager/Assistant Nurse Manager/Nursing Shift Manager or Patient Relations as needed.
  • Quality and Safety
    • Practice safe and efficient patient-centered care, identifying and escalating barriers and opportunities for improvement.
    • Demonstrate clinical skills and knowledge crucial to quality and safety in the patient population served.
    • Implement process improvement strategies based on institutional, evidence-based standards and procedures.
    • Engage in formal and informal peer and institutional review processes.
  • Operations
    • Perform charge nurse duties as assigned.
    • Coordinate with the Clinical Coordinator/Clinical Nurse Manager/Assistant Nurse Manager/Nursing Shift Manager to ensure supplies are appropriately utilized and inventory is sufficient for patient care.
    • Escalate material or staffing resource deficits to charge nurse, Clinical Nurse Manager/Assistant Nurse Manager, or Nursing Shift Manager.
  • Professional Development
    • Contribute to the environment of care to support clinical colleagues, patients, and families.
    • Advance clinical competence in nursing practice to progress from novice to expert.
    • Project a professional image to colleagues and communicate with styles and methods that demonstrate caring, respect, compassion, and empathy.
    Qualifications
    • Graduation from an accredited Nursing program.
    • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN).
    • Associate's Degree in Nursing (ADN) RN who is matriculated in a BSN Program with a graduation date within the year.
    • Any Associate's Degree in Nursing (ADN) RN with Nursing experience must be approved by the CNO.
    • Relevant clinical competence in the area of nursing practice assigned.
    • Licensed as a registered nurse with current registration in New York State.
    • Name: Basic Life Saver (BLS) Issuing Agency: AHA.
    • Certification: NRP (Labor and Delivery, NICU department).
    • Certification: ACLS (in ED; PACU/ASU; ICUs; Telemetry Units; SDU; IR, Interventional Cardiology (CCL/EP/Echo); L&D; Endoscopy, and APN Adult Oncology).
    • Certification: PALS (in ED; PACU; IR; Peds ICU, and APNs Pediatric Oncology depts.).
