Core Responsibilities

Production staff at Smithfield manage materials and utilize hand tools, knives, machinery, and equipment to responsibly deliver quality food to consumers. Team members engage in physically demanding tasks that require strong hand-eye coordination, attention to detail, and physical endurance. Availability for scheduled hours, including potential mandatory overtime, is essential based on production needs.

Qualifications

To excel in this role, candidates must successfully perform each essential duty. The qualifications listed below represent the knowledge, skills, and abilities required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals to fulfill essential functions.

All applicants must be at least 18 years of age.

Applicants must be willing and able to:

  • Comprehend and adhere to oral and written instructions
  • Execute tasks requiring continuous/repetitive movements, including grasping, pinching, and arm flexing/extending
  • Stand on concrete and/or platforms for up to a 12-hour shift
  • Work in environments with animal byproducts
  • Utilize a knife (if trained)
  • Operate in cold (approximately 20-40 degrees) and/or hot (over 100 degrees) areas
  • Function in wet and humid conditions
  • Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including hard hats, hearing/eye protection, and steel-toed safety shoes
  • Work in a noisy environment
  • Handle sanitation/cleaning chemicals
  • Adapt to strong odors
  • Climb and navigate ladders, steps, and platforms
  • Bend, stoop, and twist repetitively throughout the shift
  • Walk long distances
  • This role is physically demanding and may require the use of various body parts and muscle groups. Some positions may involve lifting up to 30 lbs overhead repetitively, single lifting of heavy objects up to 60 lbs, or utilizing mechanical assistance for lifting.
