Key Responsibilities
  • Provide timely intervention to provide medical care to meet the needs of patients within emergency and critical care areas.
  • Prepares the patient for examination, ensures that the appropriate equipment is available, and observes restraints and forensic policies and procedures.
  • Schedules diagnostic laboratory and radiological tests as ordered, transports patients in a safe and timely manner, and maintains inventory of patient belongings.
  • Provides patient care by performing assigned tasks for patient care plan implementation, contributes information in day-to-day management of patient care, and carries out routine care measures as delegated.
  • Takes and records patient's vital signs, prepares and forwards specimens, delivers activities of daily living, and maintains records of fluid intake and output.
  • Provides measures of comfort and convenience, observes and reports patient's response to interventions/treatment, and completes all documentation requirements in a timely manner.
  • Provides close observation and monitoring to ensure patient safety, communicates unit activities, needs, and problems to appropriate staff regarding patient care, and follows up with patients as required.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills to provide care, maintains clinical competency, and meets age-specific patient needs in a caring, compassionate, and sensitive manner.
  • Provides immediate response and crisis intervention during emergency situations, works collaboratively with hospital, security, forensic, and law enforcement officials to maintain a safe and secure environment at all times.
  • Administers medications and provides IV therapy and care within their scope of practice, assesses patient fluid and electrolyte balance, initiates peripheral intravenous therapy, and discontinues IV therapy.
  • Performs diagnostic EKGs, informs and explains EKG test purposes and procedures to the patient, determines proper placement and attaches electrodes to specified areas of the patient's body, and ensures accurate documentation in performing and processing all procedures.
  • Collects specimens and performs phlebotomy functions efficiently, takes and records patient's vital signs, and prepares and transports specimens and test requests to appropriate areas.
Requirements
  • High School graduate or equivalent required.
  • Successful completion of an approved Paramedic program required.
  • Qualified by education, training, and experience to work with the adolescent, adult, and/or geriatric patient population as specialty assignment dictates.
  • LP - Licensed Paramedic approved by the State of Tennessee upon hire required.
  • BCLS - Basic Life Support upon hire required.
  • ACLS within 1 year required.
  • At least 1 year experience as a Paramedic required.
  • Must successfully complete unit-specific competencies required.
