Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled and motivated individual to perform a variety of tasks in the construction, maintenance, and operation of City roads, sewer, or water facilities. As a Utility Worker II or III, you will be responsible for operating heavy equipment, participating in unskilled or semi-skilled construction and maintenance work, and performing specialized tasks such as painting, welding, and carpentry.

Responsibilities:
  • Operate heavy equipment, including backhoes, tractors, and dump trucks, to perform tasks such as excavation, grading, and hauling.
  • Participate in unskilled or semi-skilled construction and maintenance work, including asphalt paving, patching, and repair.
  • Perform specialized tasks, such as painting, welding, and carpentry, as required.
  • Assist in customer service calls, water shut-offs, and turn-ons of water services.
  • May be required to assist other divisions with specific projects or work assignments as requested.
Requirements:
  • Graduation from high school or completion of the equivalent GED Certificate.
  • Three (3) years of responsible experience in a variety of general maintenance and construction work, with specialization in equipment and power tool operation.
  • Valid Oregon Commercial Driver's License, Class B, at time of appointment.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
Working Conditions:

Adverse working conditions include work in sewer systems and inclement weather, lifting heavy objects, and performing heavy manual labor. On a regular basis, physical risks exposed to may include raw sewage and chemicals, work around heavy equipment and utilities, and work in traffic and adverse locations.
