Job Summary

The Virtual Nurse will provide an additional level of support to patients, nurses, and the bedside team by utilizing the nursing process to provide real-time clinical decision support. Virtual nurses will be integrated as an important part of the MSRH healthcare team and will have the opportunity to establish trusting relationships with the rest of the clinical team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Communicate with patients and other healthcare providers via video conferencing and equipment such as desktop computers, tablets, and mobile devices.
  • Conduct video monitoring and virtual assessments of patients to include physical, emotional, and psychosocial needs.
  • Collaborate within patient multidisciplinary rounds.
  • Utilize clinical decision-making skills to escalate concerns to the care team.
  • Participate in real-time quality and patient safety surveillance.
  • Provide patient and family education.
  • Evaluate patient outcomes and modify care plans accordingly.
  • Participate in patient care admission and discharge activities including documentation of patient history, medication reconciliation, discharge planning, and completing discharge instructions with patients and families.
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team to support the development and implementation of patient care plans.
  • Provide education and support to patient and family members.
  • Conduct post-discharge follow-up phone calls.
  • Maintain confidentiality and privacy of the patient throughout all areas of patient care.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited School of Nursing required.
  • Five (5) years nursing experience in a healthcare environment required.
  • Current Texas Board of Nursing (or Compact State) RN license required or temporary TX License (Permanent license to be obtained within 90 days of hire).
  • Chemo Competent.
  • Preferred: Chemo Certified (ONS).
  • Preferred: BMTCN (ONS).
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
